STYLE Edit: Gucci teams up with Disney for Mickey Mouse bags to mark icons 90th anniversary

This year marks 90 years since the global icon has been in our hearts and minds, following Mickey’s first appearance in the 1928 short animated film, Steamboat Willie.

Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele introduced handbags shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head on the runway of theatre-turned-nightclub, Le Palace, in Paris.

The pop-culture reference featured the iconic Disney ears with the bag’s handle placed across them.

This is not the first time Michele has featured Disney characters in his collections.

For spring 2017, he released a Donald Duck capsule collection for Gucci, with everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic duck featuring on everything from T-shirts to crew-neck jumpers. A season later, Snow White was spotted on a white sequinned jumper.

Michele created a selection of different coloured Mickey Mouse bags for his spring/summer 2019 show, including all-black and all-white variations with red lettering as well as bags with the character’s tradition colour palette.
